From my experience, I find that TRUST in business is lacking more than anything else. by many people. I know too that this is a result of the experiences they themselves have had during their life.
Without trust in business, it can’t grow.
The people involved in it can’t grow and the relationships with clients and customers can’t grow!
According to Merriam-Webster’s vocabulary builder, trust is defined as the “assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something.”
This makes total sense. Before we go to the next step of trust, we need to know and understand within ourselves that we can trust and rely on them. This comes from gaining knowledge about them and their character.
I understand the saying for many, ‘once bitten, twice shy’. I have always been ready to give a second chance. Learning to understand and give trust can change the attitude in any business. We need to know and prove that we are trustworthy ourselves. This is shown in how we live our lives. Once we do this, everything else will follow on from there.
Trust is always earned in all areas of an individual’s life. Trust in business is as important too. This can take time especially if the people are of different personality styles. We need time to get to know them to see if we resonate with their values and beliefs.
I have found, over my many years, that if we do not trust others, we need to take a look at ourselves and our own trust issues. Do you trust yourself? Would you do business with you?
Developing trust outside your own inner circle is something that is often difficult. When joining a Business MasterMind Group you will meet face-to-face on a regular basis. On developing trust you will gain support what is often lacking from your business. All groups have a lot of thought and scrutiny in their creation. Find yourself a group that will give you this!
A well-constructed group develops trust fast and the relationships will become significant. This is the reason for the process before acceptance into a group. A facilitator working closely over six months is a commitment for both. The facilitator needs to feel trust to promote them to their contacts.
A referral is a reflection of the person who gives it! On suggesting two people connect, it is imperative that I KNOW that there will be synergy there. There needs to be something in common. They need to also prove they are trustworthy, and that their skills will support other.
Confidentiality is essential. People’s individual IP must be safe. A Confidentiality Agreement is always used for each others protection. If there are Joint Ventures, Partnerships etc. this needs to be in the form of a legal document.
Our levels of trust in business and with governments globally is declining. If you are looking for some help to gauge trust levels it is a good idea to look at the Edelman Trust Barometer.
This global survey spotlights trust by country, institution type, business sector and type of person. It also looks at what topics contribute to trust, and how leadership can best embody trust. It is worth the time to check this out if you are wanting to track businesses and their impact globally on trust. This may be a good indicator to you and how your run your business.
As small business owners understanding the importance of TRUST is essential.
